Ingredients

  • 8-pound pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Pork Shoulder

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Rinse the pork shoulder and pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, black pepper, and salt.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, making sure to cover every surface.

Step 2: Cooking the Pork Shoulder

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the pork shoulder and brown on all sides, about 5 minutes per side.
  3. Remove the pork shoulder from the Dutch oven and set aside.
  4. In the same Dutch oven, add the white vinegar, orange juice, and lime juice and stir to combine.
  5. Return the pork shoulder to the Dutch oven and bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Cover the Dutch oven with a lid and transfer to the preheated oven.
  7. Cook for 2 hours, flipping the pork shoulder halfway through.

Step 3: Finishing the Pork Shoulder

  1. Remove the Dutch oven from the oven and allow the pork shoulder to rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Using two forks, shred the pork shoulder.
  3. Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!
